An absolutely classic vocal gets a dark and moody rerub from the mysterious Adesse Versions. While he has recently made foray into more upbeat funky disco sounds, his house edits have always had an element of menace to them, and here it compliments Jhelisa's voice perfectly.
Springbok Records head honcho Stephane Deschezeaux serves up a discofied dancefloor friendly edit of Joy's 1983 brilliant soulful funk track Time is Right. The original is pretty tough to come by, so this is double plus good.
Lovely piece of floaty piano house from newcomer Théo Spécial on Dutch label Bordello A Parigi. Can't find a whole lot about this artist or release, but it's a beautiful little eyes-closed summer jam, complete with infectious percussion
Lovely slice of Nigerian Afrofunk, with extended synths and beefed up drums by Sofrito crew member Frankie Francis. Not the most drastic of edits, but does just enough to drive the groove a bit harder and make it more dancefloor friendly
With the news that the genre defining Burial album Untrue turned 10 years old this week, I got back onto this mix from UK Bass duo My Nu Leng. Warning: There's a godawful Archangel remix in there about a 3rd of the way through, but besides that it's superb.
Officially my favourite ever free download, finally released on vinyl in 2016 (along with the eagerly anticipated, monstrous remix of SpectraSoul - Justified), I've played this in too many sets to count.
